What are the benefits of Yoga?

  • Practicing yoga has loads of physical benefits: it creates a flexible, toned and strong body and improves breathing, energy and metabolism. Yoga improves circulatory and cardiac health, as well as fitness levels, pain and posture. It also has benefits for your mental health, making you happier, more balanced and emotionally calmer. It helps you relax so you can handle stress better. Yoga encourages self-confidence and helps you to focus your energy.

  • The spiritual benefits of yoga are also key: Yoga teaches you to be aware of what is going on inside and outside of you. Yoga teaches you to be present in your surroundings and open to what is all around – in other words, more mindful.

  • You will feel some benefits immediately, such as the release of physical tension, the body opening and muscles strengthening – the “feel good” factor that keeps people hooked on yoga. Other benefits depend on how much you practice and every person is different. But most people will feel a positive change after a few weeks, if not before.

Who is Yoga for?

  • Anyone and everyone! Our classes have age ranges from 18-85 and a good split between men and women! Some students are in peak physical health and compete and others are just looking to improve mobility. Regardless of your age, gender, body, or anything else, we can all benefit from regular yoga practice.

What equipment do I need to bring?

  • Nothing but yourself! We have all needed materials (including mats, blocks, straps, etc) at the studio. However, most students will bring their own mats to class. Feel free to bring any equipment with you!

  • There are cubbies at the entrance where you can leave your shoes, keys, wallets, etc.

  • Some students will also bring a water bottle with them

I’ve never tried yoga before, which class is right for me?

  • Every class is taught to be all levels. No matter if you’re a beginner or advanced practitioner Kim will queue poses for all different level and body types. If something doesn’t feel right then there is no need to push it further. Listen to your body and what is right for you and we can make adjustments.

  • Some students have lots of experience with lifting, running, and other various types of workout. Some students are totally new to fitness and that’s ok! We’re all here to help and each one of us can benefit from Yoga.

  • Classes that will have more challenge include Monday night and Saturday mornings.

  • Classes that will be more gentle include Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings.

What should I wear to class?

  • Anything that you feel comfortable in. Many students wear typical workout clothes (ie: shorts or yoga pants, workout shirts or compression gear). This is a judgement free zone and we’re all here to improve our health and fitness so whatever feels right to you!

I’m nervous I won’t be able to do the poses correctly.

  • Don’t worry! We all had to start somewhere and for many, Yoga is a completely new way to move your body. This is not a competition and we will work with your body that you brought that day. If something doesn’t feel right then don’t push past it. It will take time for your body and muscles to loosen and strengthen in areas for you to complete more advanced poses.

Is yoga just for women?

  • No! Although classes tend to be mostly women we do have some men in class that regularly attend. There are no restrictions on who can practice yoga with us. Everyone is welcome and could stand to gain something from regular Yoga practice!
